This Camp is an introduction to our S.T.E.A.M. MakerSpace, complete with a full schedule of totally cool STEAM-based projects that challenge and encourage 'out-of-the-box' thinking! Campers will invent, design, build, and create while meeting various challenges using the MakerSpace materials, recyclables, tools, and supplies. Guaranteed FUN!!!
Week 2, June 19-22
Clay Camp - by popular request! Campers will try their hand with air-dry clay and Femo to sculpt their creations. Art Smart Kids will also make their own papier mache' clay and younger campers will mix up a batch of their own colorful play dough. Campers will learn basic hand building techniques (coil, pinch pot, slab) and how to add texture and details - then CREATE AT WILL! When completed, sculptors will have the option of painting and sealing their AWESOME air-dried clay sculptures.
Week 3, June 26-29
Drawing, painting, collage, mixed media - whatever it takes to illustrate your story to the world! Little Artists will create artwork based on classic children's storybooks and artists, such as Eric Carle, Maurice Sendak, and Dr. Suess. Older kids will learn to use drawing, sketching, painting, collage, stamping, and mixed media techniques as they create their own personal art journals!
Week 4, July 10-13
SUPER CHALLENGE WEEK! Campers might learn and perform a magic trick, or create a building set for someone else to try, or build model of something from outer space! They might work with a partner to create something amazing, or they might design something on paper for someone else to build! Plenty of creative out-of-the-box thinking, trial and error, collaboration, and FUN as campers work (and play) while meeting these SUPER CHALLENGES. This is a S.T.E.A.M. MakerSpace Camp.
Week 5, July 17-20
Children Love NATURE! Birds, bugs, beach critters, and beasts are the perfect art subjects for young artists! Little Artists will love creating sparkly, swirly, silly creatures that slither, swim, and fly! Older campers will try scientific illustration and/or 3-D model creature creations. All campers will craft natural elements into some of their artwork. Mixed media projects all week long!
Week 6, July 24-27

This week campers will examine famous paintings of great artists such as Claude Monet, Paul Cezanne, Joan Miro, Henri Matisse, Amedeo Modigliani, and Paul Klee to understand the artists' styles. Then campers will learn simple techniques that will be used to create artwork suitable for framing!
Week 7, July 31-August 3
Here is every kid's dream camp: designing and building their own board games, mazes, puzzles, arcade games, musical instruments, spinners, or whatever else sounds like fun!
